Description

This 6 week course is designed for those of you who have some experience with jewellery making but want to progress or explore the craft in a creative and supportive atmosphere. There will be no set curriculum, you will bring your own plans and ideas, and together we can work to make them a reality. You will have full access to a range of tools and machines including a bandsaw, silversmithing stakes, chasing tools, and a huge range of polishing and finishing equipment. Rather than teaching a set of skills decided in advance, we will look at the skills you want to learn as we go, so that you can get the most out of your time. This is meant to be a relaxed group where you can all cross-pollinate your ideas, get and give advice, and improve your skill set organically.

This class takes place in my workshop in Newham Quay, Truro. Classes are limited to 4 students, to allow everyone to get the support they need. Parking is limited at the workshop, but it is only a 10 minute walk from the Garras Wharf car park beside Tesco. Detailed instructions on how to find the workshop will be attached to your booking email. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided and there is a toilet on site. Please let me know if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. Unfortunately, my workshop is up a short flight of stairs and there is no disabled access.

This is a working workshop and so is a hazardous environment. Please wear old clothes, closed toed shoes and tie back long hair. I will supply aprons, and all the safety equipment you need. This course is unsuitable for complete beginners, and you will be expected to be able to saw, file, and solder with minimum supervision. You will be taken through the workshop tools and given a complete rundown of how they work, for safety. Ages 18+.

What is included: The price includes the use of the equipment, but doesn’t cover materials or consumables you might need to complete your designs. You will be given a starter set of consumables, like saw blades, sandpaper and some pendant motor tools. There will be some scrap copper available for use but other materials or larger pieces will have to be bought separately.

What you need to bring: Enthusiasm and a creative brain. Sketching and drawing supplies are also useful.
